The Mets’ search for a new general manager — or president of baseball operations — moved into an active phase Monday, with the start of first-round interviews.
At this point, team officials remain secretive about the details, but four known candidates have emerged: former Rangers/Brewers GM Doug Melvin, Cardinals director of player development Gary LaRocque, MLB executive Kim Ng and Nationals special assistant De Jon Watson.
Among the previously rumored names who won’t interview, according to sources, is Blue Jays assistant GM Tony LaCava. Last week former Red Sox GM Ben Cherington, who is working in Toronto’s front office, declined an invitation from the Mets to interview, as did Twins GM Thad Levine.
