In what was easily the worst lost of the year - and probably the worst since last year’s meltdown in Washington - the Mets blew a five-run lead in the seventh before losing in extras, 8-7. Andres Gimenez made one error and dropped another ball he should’ve caught, while Jared Hughes struggled pitching a third straight day. Once things got close, Edwin Diaz was brought in, and very quickly gave up the game-tying home run before also allowing the game-winning hit in the eighth.
Robinson Cano had the biggest hit of the day, that being a two-run home run that gave the Mets a 4-2 lead in the fifth.
