The Mets and Red Sox exchanged solo home runs early in the game at Citi Field, with Jeff McNeil jumping on a first pitch to deposit one in the second deck in right field in the bottom of the second, which was quickly answered by Bobby Dalbec leading off the top of the third.
David Peterson was strong thereafter, largely keeping the ball on the ground, but he gave up a leadoff double to Enrique Hernandez leading off the sixth, and Rafael Devers delivered the clutch hit the Mets could not with a broken bat single to left that gave Boston a 2-1 lead.
