The Mets lost a back-and-forth affair to the Pirates 5-4, as David Freese walked it off with a hit off Tim Peterson with the bases loaded in the ninth. Freese drove in all of the Pirates’ five runs.
The Mets jumped out to an early lead against Ivan Nova when Michael Conforto blasted a three-run homer in the first inning. The Pirates responded in the bottom of the second off Jason Vargas, making his first start back from the disabled list. David Freese hit a two-run homer to bring the Pirates within one.
