Jacob deGrom’s night started out poorly when he gave up a home run on the very first pitch he threw to Scott Kingery, but after that he was brilliant. He bounced back to strike out the side in the second and rolled until the seventh, striking out ten batters in total.
If not for Pete Alonso, the Mets may have been shut out by Vince Velasquez and the Phillies bullpen. Alonso got the Mets on the board with a solo homer in the fourth that tied the game at one.
