In a game that was an ugly slugfest from the get go, the Phillies defeated the Mets 13-7 this evening at Citizen’s Bank Park. Starters Steven Matz and Zach Eflin were both hit hard, but while the Mets’ bats got cold once the bullpen hit, the Phillies kept on hitting.
The Mets started the game off with two quick runs from RBI hits from Michael Conforto and Todd Frazier in the top of the first. But the Phillies answered right back, scoring three runs off of Matz in their first turn at bat.
