The Mets got off to a quick start in the top of the first inning in the season finale, as Pete Alonso followed a Brandon Nimmo infield single with a long home run to left field. That 2-0 lead would not hold up long.
The Nationals got one back in the bottom of the first before exploding for 11 more runs over the next two innings. Seth Lugo only recorded one out in the second inning, as Washington sent 10 batters to the plate and scored five before Chasen Shreve got the Mets out of the frame.
