The Mets salvaged a series split this afternoon with a 7-2 victory against the Washington Nationals. Most of those runs from the Amazins came via the home run ball, and a whopping six of them came from Tomas Nido, who notched both his first multi-homer game and first grand slam of his career with impressive bombs to left field in the fourth and fifth innings. Dominic Smith whacked a solo homer of his own in the second, his fourth of the season, and the Mets also tacked on an insurance run in the ninth thanks to three straight two-out hits culminating in an RBI single by Pete Alonso.
