The Mets defeated the Pirates 6-3 in the opening game of a three-game weekend series at Citi Field. Zack Wheeler made his first start since hitting the injured list with shoulder fatigue and pitched very well, earning the win.
The Mets were held in check early by Pirates starter Dario Agrazal, but Jeff McNeil broke through in the bottom of the third with a three-run homer over the short fence down the right field line to put the Mets ahead where they would stay. Todd Frazier added to the lead with a solo homer in the fifth to stretch the Mets’ lead to 4-1.
