Since Jacob deGrom was not on the mound, the Mets’ offense put together a competent showing and defeated the Padres 6-3.
The offense got on the board early when they loaded the bases with two out in the first. Devin Mesoraco cleared the bases with a double and gave Zack Wheeler a 3-0 lead.
Wheeler made the lead stand up despite a shaky inning in the third. It was the Padres’ turn to load the bases with two outs, and a single by Wil Myers led to some confusion.
