The Mets shut out the Nationals 6-0 on the back of a complete game from Jacob deGrom, the fourth of his career. deGrom was cruising from the beginning. He gave up just two hits—and one of them was a misplay in the field by Brandon Nimmo—through the first five innings, during which Erick Fedde matched zeros with him; it was looking like yet another deGrom start without run support for the Mets ace.
But the Mets finally broke through in the fifth, partially thanks to deGrom himself. With one out, Fedde hit J.D. Davis with a pitch and then walked Jeff McNeil.
