The Mets opened a nine game road trip in Arizona Monday night with three reinforcements activated from the injured list in Pete Alonso, Seth Lugo, and Kevin Pillar, and with the incomparable Jacob deGrom on the hill. And while deGrom looked good enough to have a shot at history early in the game, Pete Alonso provided immediate offensive support for the ace in the Mets’ 6-2 victory.
After both teams went in order in the first two innings, the Mets strung together four singles in the top of the third, with Alonso’s liner with the bases loaded plating the first two runs of the game.
