Final Score: Mets 6, Cardinals 2—Win the game, win the series

The Mets beat the Cardinals 6-2 this afternoon and secured the series win against the Cardinals. It was a “team win,” as they say. Jacob deGrom wasn’t at his best in his season debut, but as we’ve seen with him on so many occasions before, he found a way through where lesser pitchers would have surely folded. All told, deGrom made it five and two-thirds innings, striking out seven, walking one, and yielding one earned run on four hits.

The Mets’ offense pounced on Cardinals starter Michael Wacha right away, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first inning on a Todd Frazier double.
