The Mets almost let this one slip away, but they beat the Marlins again.
The Mets mostly cruised to their seventh straight victory this evening at Citi Field. Jacob deGrom was fantastic in seven shutout innings of work, the offense scored five runs through the first six innings, and everything seemed pretty swell. The bullpen, however, gave up a run in the eighth inning and three more in the ninth to turn a seemingly sure thing into a nail biter.
But after Carlos Torres struggled mightily to start the ninth—pitching in his seventh game of the year already—Alex Torres took over with two outs to strike out Christian Yelich to end the game and notch his first ever major league save.
