In honor of the retiring captain, the Mets scored five runs in their 5-2 triumph over the Marlins in game two of the doubleheader. Michael Conforto was the crown jewel of the offense again he drove in three of the Mets’ five runs. Tomas Nido added to the production with his first career home run in the fifth inning.
As far as the starting pitching goes, Jason Vargas pitched like Vargy as he went six strong innings while only allowing two runs on three scattered hits. Seth Lugo followed Vargas with two innings of his own while striking out the batter in five of the six outs that he recorded.
