The Mets won the series finale in Miami this afternoon, defeating the Marlins 5-2. After an absolutely abysmal June, the Mets turned the page on a new month, and secured a win behind a solid pitching performance by their home-grown lefty.
Kevin Plawecki drove in the first run of the game with a double to center field in the second inning, plating Todd Frazier. One inning later, Asdrubal Cabrera hit a solo home run to put the Mets up 2-0.
Steven Matz started for the Mets, and went five and a third innings, only surrendering one run that, partially, was caused by an error he, himself, committed.
