The first game of the doubleheader between the Mets and Rockies was a game the Mets have played far too often over the past 3 plus seasons in Jacob deGrom starts until the 7th inning. After appearing to not have his best stuff at the start of the game, deGrom settled in, striking out 9 consecutive batters, setting a new career high, and coming one batter away from tying Tom Seaver’s major league record.
The Mets’ offense started off slow again, having at least one runner reach base in the first four innings, but were only able to capitalize in the third inning, where Jacob deGrom helped himself by singling, and eventually scoring on a Pete Alonso single.
