After two tight and frustrating losses to open their series in San Diego, the Mets looked to bounce back Saturday night behind Jacob deGrom against the Padres.
The anticipated pitchers’ duel between deGrom and the Padres’ Joe Musgrove was on early. deGrom allowed only a broken bat double to Fernando Tatis Jr. over the first three. Meanwhile, Musgrove pitched around a leadoff double by Billy McKinney in the first inning and a two out double by Travis Blankenhorn in the second, but otherwise looked strong, striking out eight Mets through the first four innings.
With the game scoreless, the Padres got their one golden opportunity against deGrom in the bottom of the fourth.
