Final Score: Mets 4, Nationals 2—Cy You Later

The day after the Mets tagged Max Scherzer for three runs, Jacob deGrom had a chance to make a statement. And he made a statement. He went seven innings, giving up just one run on three hits and striking out eight Nationals in the process.

The Mets jumped out to an early lead in the first. Amed Rosario doubled to lead off the game. Jeff McNeil and Michael Conforto made two quick outs after that, but Jay Bruce—who went on to have a big night at the plate—reached out and poked a single to left, scoring Rosario to put the Mets on the board.
