Carlos Carrasco’s standard first inning struggles started immediately Thursday night, as Miguel Rojas hit his first pitch of the game out of the park. Two batters later, the Marlins had extended their lead to 2-0.
Carrasco escaped the inning without further damage, and Jonathan Villar matched Rojas’s feat, sending Sandy Alcantra’s first pitch to the Shea Bridge to cut the deficit in half.
The starters would settle in, with Alcantra retiring nine in a row entering the bottom of the fourth. Brandon Nimmo would lead that inning off with an infield single, advancing to second on a poor throw by Isan Diaz (in a game that featured some poor defense on both sides).
