Final Score: Mets 3, Braves 0 - King Pete

The Mets, in the penultimate game of the season, defeated the Braves 3-0 at Citi Field. Steven Matz started for the Mets, an looked quite good, if not a little wild, in his six innings of work. Matz gave up no runs, but allowed two hits and five walks along with his seven strikeouts.

Although Rene Rivera’s two-run home run in the bottom of the third put the Mets on top, but it was Pete Alonso’s 53rd home run that was the story of the night. Now the sole owner of the rookie home run record, Alonso took a pitch from Mike Foltynewicz to center field, and got showered in applause from the crowd and hugs from his team mates.
