Final score: Mets 3, Blue Jays 0—A polar bear and a horse walk into a bar

The Mets bested the Blue Jays 3-0 in Steven Matz’s return to Citi Field. Matz had a strong showing in his first start back in Queens, the only damage against him in his 5 23 innings of work coming on a Pete Alonso two-run homer in the first inning.

But Tylor Megill was even better, tossing six shutout innings against the potent Blue Jays offense, giving up just two hits and striking out five batters. Megill needed just 78 pitches to notch the quality start and he got his first major league hit in the process to boot.
