After just sailing along for five innings, the Mets’ offense exploded for ten runs in the sixth inning en route to a 13-4 walloping of the Pirates at Citi Field. Francisco Lindor’s grand slam was the pièce de résistance of that inning, but almost the entire offense contributed to the victory.
Pete Alonso crushed a three-run home run earlier in that same inning, and Jonathan Villar hit bombs from both sides of the plate throughout the course of the game. However, some of the damage was self-inflicted by Pittsburgh pitching when they both hit and walked a batter with the bases loaded.
