The Mets put together what feels like their most dominant performance in months, blowing away the Cubs 10-2. Zack Wheeler had some trouble to work through early, but was unphased and wound up throwing seven shutout innings. The offense did more than enough to support him, hitting three home runs and scoring in each of the first six innings.
Pete Alonso’s first inning bomb was his 26th of the season, tying Darryl Strawberry’s Met rookie record. Alonso also now has the record for most home runs before the All Star Break by an NL Rookie.
