The Mets lost the weekend series to the Miami Marlins after losing today’s game. Jordan Yamamoto made his first start for New York facing off against his old team, and had a second inning meltdown where five runs crossed the plate. The rest of his appearance was decent but that mountain proved too arduous for the depleted Mets offense to overcome. Yamamoto ended up leaving the game after the fourth inning with right shoulder soreness, leading the way for Robert Gsellman and Yennsy Díaz to throw four innings of scoreless baseball.
While the offense was unable to overcome the five runs allowed in the second, they did have one run scored, after Johneshwy Fargas doubled and was eventually driven in by Wilfredo Tovar.
