Final score: Giants 7, Mets 5—Mets tumble further down Hill

The Mets got their West Coast road trip off to a rough start, as the Giants outslugged them en route to a 7-5 final score. It was the fourth straight loss for the Amazins, and it resulted in falling another game back in the NL East standings.

Rich Hill started for the Mets and looked strong in the early going, but it all fell apart in the fourth as he gave up five straight hits to end his night and give the Giants a 2-0 lead. To the Mets’ credit, they did manage to put up some runs to stay in the game, including by putting up a three-spot in the fifth inning to briefly take the lead thanks to a two-run triple (yes, you read that right—a triple) by Pete Alonso, who subsequently scored on a sac fly.
