In a bizarre twist, the Mets found themselves unable to score a run on Thursday night in Chavez Ravine, wasting a spectacular performance from Jason Vargas in their 2-0 loss to the Dodgers. While both teams threatened throughout most of the game, things were decided by the time the fifth pitch of the game crossed the plate.
Two pitches into his start against the Dodgers, Jason Vargas surrendered a triple to Chris Taylor to immediately put him in a precarious position. Another pair of pitches later and Max Muncy sent a double to center and brought Taylor home to score the game’s only run until Enrique Hernandez’s RBI single off of Hector Santiago with two outs in the eighth.
