The Mets were eventually defeated by the Cubs in extras by a score of 7-1. Buddy Baumann finally gave up the game-winning hit to Albert Almora Jr. in the 14th inning, but really the offense’s pathetic performance against reliever Luke Farrell is what sealed the win for the Cubs.
Jacob deGrom was again stellar and gave up one run in seven innings. He struck out thirteen and was at his best with runners on which is what he has done on year long.
However, with a lefty on the mound, the Mets’ offense once again struggled to score runs and could not back up deGrom’s brilliant outing.
