The Mets were shut out by the Braves 7-0 in a game they absolutely needed to win. Rick Porcello did his part, striking out ten Braves hitters over seven innings—a season high. The only run against him came on a Ronald Acuna Jr. solo homer that just sneaked over the wall into the front row seats in right field.
But the normally mighty Mets offense could not break through against Kyle Wright, who pitched his best game as a major leaguer. He matched Porcello, tossing 6 1⁄3 brilliant innings and giving up just one hit—a Wilson Ramos double in the third—and striking out six.
