The Mets’ pitching throttled the Braves’ potent offense for 17.2 innings over the first two games of this series. The floodgates that seemingly opened in the ninth inning with Marcell Osuna’s game-tying home run Saturday afternoon remained so Sunday, as the Braves pounded the Mets 14-1 in the series finale.
The Braves jumped on New Jersey native Rick Porcello in his debut with his childhood favorite team for two runs in the first inning on RBI singles from Matt Adams and Dansby Swanson. Meanwhile, Braves starter Sean Newcomb was wild early, seemingly inviting the Mets to break out themselves.
