Brooklyn manager Tom Gamboa held the New York-Penn League team's first workout Tuesday at MCU Park. The Cyclones open their season Friday at Coney Island against the Staten Island Yankees.
Right-hander Gabriel Llanes is due to start the opener for Brooklyn. The rotation also will include left-hander Joel Huertas as well as right-handers Harol Gonzalez and Merandy Gonzalez.
Merandy Gonzalez's fastball sits at 93-96 mph. Harol Gonzalez's sits at a more modest 89-91 mph, but he also possesses a solid breaking ball and outstanding changeup, and he is considered to "have a great feel for pitching and throwing a hitter's timing off," according to Gamboa.
