Jacob deGrom threw seven scoreless innings and Brandon Nimmo delivered a homer in the fifth, and until there was one out in the top of the ninth, that seemed like it would just be enough for the Mets to finish off the Marlins.
But that was before Jeurys Familia tried to close the game.
The closer gave up two runs — including a go-ahead single by Starlin Castro — as the Mets lost to Miami, 2-1, at Citi Field.
