Mets closer Jeurys Familia became the first player in franchise history to record 50 saves in a season with a 1-2-3 ninth inning during Wednesday's 5-2 win over the Marlins in Miami.
Familia broke Armando Benitez's previous Mets record of 43 saves in a season during August. He is the 13th player in MLB history to save 50 games in a season. By hitting No. 50, he also set the single-season record for saves by a Dominican pitcher, topping the 49 saves Jose Valverde recorded in 2011 and Francisco Cordero's 49 in 2004.
