Mets RHP Jeurys Familia had surgery on Friday for a clot in his right armpit, GM Sandy Alderson said.
Familia will be out for several months and could miss the remainder of the season, according to Alderson.
Familia reported tingling in his right ring finger on Wednesday but was allowed to pitch because the symptoms were minor.
He had been examined by Dr. Robert Thompson on Friday. Thompson is the doctor who performed surgery on Matt Harvey last year for Thoracic Outlet Syndrome.
Familia, 27, allowed four runs (three earned) yesterday against the Giants while blowing his first save of 2017.
