CHICAGO — The unlikely offensive hero did a good job of hitting the ball where the Cubs weren’t Tuesday night.
Rene Rivera was in the Mets lineup for his ability to control the running game, but ended up winning it with his bat. It was Rivera’s RBI single in the ninth — his third hit of the night — that scored the go-ahead run in the Mets’ 2-1 victory at Wrigley Field.
Rivera’s bloop to right scored Neil Walker, who moments earlier was ruled safe at first base after replay overturned the original call. Asdrubal Cabrera followed with a single against Hector Rondon before Rivera delivered.
