Familia calms nerves, picks up first save since return from injury

MILWAUKEE — Jeurys Familia had a few early jitters, but before long reverted to form.

In his return to action, the Mets closer pitched a perfect ninth inning for his 20th save in 22 chances in the Mets’ 2-0 victory over the Brewers on Thursday that snapped a seven-game losing streak. Familia had soreness in his left groin last Friday and hadn’t pitched since.

“I knew I didn’t feel anything, but I was a little scared,” Familia said. “When I threw my first couple of pitches, it was good.”

Manager Terry Collins had intended to use Familia regardless of the situation Thursday because he wanted the right-hander back on the mound after the layoff.
