Former New York Mets second baseman Wally Backman was arrested Friday morning in a domestic dispute in Riverhead, New York.
Backman was arrested on suspicion of second degree harassment and fourth degree criminal mischief, the Riverhead Police said in a statement. A spokesperson said he was arraigned and released and is scheduled for a court date later in September.
The police report says Backman allegedly shoved the woman into a wall and then prevented her from calling 911, according to reports.
Backman, 59, was a key member of the 1986 Mets World Series team.
