Erik Goeddel returns to mound, but may not be ready for season

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- New York Mets reliever Erik Goeddel threw 15 pitches off a mound Saturday in his first bullpen action since suffering a lat strain. Still, manager Terry Collins said Goeddel will not be in a Grapefruit League game for eight days and that it is dicey whether Goeddel will be ready for Opening Day on April 3.

Goeddel, vying for one of the final two bullpen spots, has not yet appeared in an exhibition game.

"It's going to be hard to say," Collins said about Goeddel's readiness for the season.
