Erik Goeddel had off-season surgery to remove a bone spur

Mets reliever Erik Goeddel had off-season surgery to remove a bone spur in his pitching elbow, he told MLB.com's Anthony DiComo on Tuesday in St. Lucie.

According to Goeddel, the bone spur caused him periodic pain throughout last season.

In 36 appearances (35 2/3 innings) for the Mets last season, Goeddel, 28, was 2-2 with a 4.54 ERA (4.21 FIP) and 1.31 WHIP while striking out 36 batters.

He had a 2.43 ERA (2.47 FIP) in 35 relief appearances for the Mets in 2015.

Goeddel was able to adhere to his normal off-season throwing program, according to DiComo.
