You cannot make this stuff up.
The Mets were an out away from escaping a near-impossible to escape jam in the 13th inning Monday night. The Giants had placed a runner on third with no out, largely through an errant pickoff try and a wild pitch. Then it was second and third with one out but the Mets cut down a runner at home. When Brandon Crawford lifted a pop to shallow left, what remained of the announced crowd of 24,811 at Citi Field exhaled in relief.
Then screamed in horror.
Dominic Smith came in from left and Amed Rosario went out from short.
