Endy Chavez is coming back to the Mets organization as a minor league coach. Chavez, who was last with the Mets in 2008, will be joining the Brooklyn Cyclones staff when their season begins in June. In addition, Chavez will also work with minor league players at the Mets spring training camp in Port St. Lucie.
Chavez has not appeared in the majors since 2014, but last summer he played for the Somerset (New Jersey) Patriots and went on to hit .328 in the Venezuelan Winter League.
Chavez’s first stint with the Mets lasted from 1996-2000 after signing with the team out of Venezuela.
