The 2024 season was maybe the most critical in the career of Edwin Díaz. Coming off a completely missed season from his horrific knee injury in the 2023 WBC, the Mets star closer was possibly the team’s biggest question mark in 2024. Nobody knew what he would look like getting back on a mound after such a traumatic injury.
That said, the early 2024 returns were positive. Díaz looked very much himself in spring, though not necessarily with the prime velocity we were used to seeing from him, but there was still time for him to ramp up more.
