Edwin Diaz’s first blown save with his new team didn’t sit well. He was hoping for a chance right away to make up for it.
“No closer ever wants to give up the tying run or the lead run,” he said after closing out the team’s 4-3 win over the Tigers at Citi Field on Sunday afternoon for his 13th save. “I think today gave me more confidence than I already had. That’s what I do — I go out there and I lock the game down.”
This 32-pitch outing was far from easy. Diaz walked Christin Stewart on four pitches to start the inning and allowed a one-out single to Brandon Dixon, giving the Tigers runners at the corners with one out.
