Edgardo Alfonzo gets in Mets manager pipeline

The Mets are turning to one of their own to be the new manager of the Brooklyn Cyclones.

Edgardo Alfonzo, who spent eight years with the Mets, was named the Single-A affiliate’s manager on Thursday after coaching on the team for the past three years.

Alfonzo, 43, played in the majors for 12 seasons and was an All-Star with the Mets in 2000. He hit well in the postseason in 1999 and 2000. Alfonzo’s brother, Edgar, was Brooklyn’s manager in 2001 and again in 2007-08.

Royce Ring, who spent time with both the Mets and the Yankees, was named the Cyclones’ pitching coach.
