Early Jeurys Familia analysis: How many games would he miss?

CLEVELAND — This is absolutely not the sort of annual tradition Major League Baseball hoped to establish when it took on the domestic-violence issue.

But here we are, with Year 2 of this collectively bargained policy underway — it sure seems like most of these incidents occur in the players’ offseasons, doesn’t it? — and we have our first suspect in Jeurys Familia.

Based on what went down in Year 1, the Mets’ closer looks like he’s in big trouble. While we only know a little, it already feels like a lot.

If it’s not fair to say that the burden of proof falls on Familia to prove his innocence, then for sure, MLB’s burden of proof for this falls considerably less than it does for issues like illegal performance-enhancing drug usage or other criminal acts.
