Dueling debuts go in opposite directions for Mets and Phillies

Even though neither starting pitcher had any track record in the majors, it was not a complete surprise the way last night’s game unfolded with the Mets coming out on the losing side of the 7-3 score.

While Seth Lugo sat in the bullpen, Drew Gagnon became the latest starter in a string of them that was called up to get the start over Lugo. Gagnon joined Chris Flexen and Corey Oswalt as starters this week and also joined them in not being effective.

It all unraveled in the second inning when he deflected a ground ball off the bat of Nick Williams that went for an infield single.
