Dominic Smith, the Mets' top draft pick in 2013, was supposed to hit for average and power.
So it was not a great sign when he batted .271 with one home run in 126 games with Single-A Savannah in 2014, his .338 slugging percentage lower than his .344 on-base percentage.
Nevertheless, Smith was promoted to Single-A Advanced St. Lucie this season. As of May 18, Smith was hitting .194 with four doubles and no home runs.
Then the struggling slugger began to surge.
Smith has hit in 16 straight games since then, batting .393 (26-for-66) with 14 doubles and one home run.
