Matt Harvey’s explanation for the blood in his urine sounds a wee unpeelievable.
The Mets ace told reporters Tuesday the discoloration in his pee was caused by a bladder infection he developed because he doesn’t use the bathroom often enough, but a sports physician says Harvey’s explanation doesn’t pass the smell test.
“I don’t think holding it in too long will cause a bladder infection, although bladder infections do cause blood in the urine,” said Dr. Lewis Maharam, past president of the New York chapter of the American College of Sports Medicine.
It’s more likely that the blood in Harvey’s urine was caused by strenuous exercise, said Maharam, the Daily News “Running Doc” columnist.
