Dillon Gee getting spot start for Mets

One day after laughing off the notion of giving struggling ace Matt Harvey an extra rest day before his next start, Mets manager Terry Collins did exactly that Friday when he added spot starter Dillon Gee to the rotation.

Gee (0-3, 4.50 ERA) will start Sunday, less than a week after he lost his spot when the Mets hastily ended their short-lived experiment with a six-man rotation.

"We think they need an extra day right now," Collins said of the rotation.

Gee last started June 3. His lone relief appearance came Tuesday, when he allowed a homer.
