The Mets designated pitcher Dillon Gee for assignment, the team announced Monday.
Gee is 0-3 with a 5.90 ERA in eight appearances (seven starts) this season.
In his last start on Sunday, Gee gave up eight runs on 11 hits in 32/3 innings.
Gee had been bounced twice from the Mets' rotation this season. He had been relegated to being a spot starter when manager Terry Collins wanted to give another starter an extra day or two off.
Top pitching prospect and Ward Melville product Steven Matz has impressed at Triple-A, where he has remained mostly because the Mets' rotation has lacked an opening.
